In his famous Cosmos readings at this university and in the Singakademie, today's Maxim Gorki Theater, Alexander von Humboldt covered the whole world and explored all scientific disciplines. He viewed the world from a global perspective in which natural and cultural factors are intertwined and interdependent. Following on from this, international scientists and scholars take up the various topics from Humboldt's reading series and engage with them from a contemporary perspective.
