Urbanity & Diversity
Many urban spaces are suitable places for rare wild plants that are endangered in their wild habitat. The aim of "Urbanity and Diversity" is to use urban spaces for the protection of regional endangered wild plants through the simple active participation of all those interested. "Urbanity and Diversity" is up and running in Berlin, Brandenburg, Dresden and Marburg for this purpose. In cooperation with the nature conservation authorities, we collect and propagate 34 different wild plant species in Berlin and Brandenburg, which we leave to our plant patrons for care and seed production in the garden, on the balcony or on our ark area in Marzahn. The seeds can be further cultivated or sent back to us, so that we can gain new patrons with the new plants. Currently, more than 1000 private individuals, schools, allotment garden associations, NABU (Nature and Biodiversity Conservation Union) groups, and others in Berlin and Brandenburg are participating in the project.
"Urbanity and Diversity" organises events on biological topics. There are two active working groups and regular planting sessions of our plants in suitable spaces in Berlin and Brandenburg. Additionally, our project is scientifically evaluated through regular monitoring and ecological and genetic studies.
